UAM – Indoor Practice Facility & Press Box

Location: Monticello, Arkansas

Challenge: Develop a new facility for the athletic and band programs for indoor practice that also houses athletic offices, meeting rooms and support spaces. In addition, update the WPA vintage press box atop Cotton Boll Stadium. Each of these projects needed to be designed within the tight parameters of the existing facilities and the campus schedule.

Performance: By locating the new practice facility in the end zone and installing large overhead doors, the University gained a multipurpose venue for a variety of campus functions as well as an all-weather practice field. Because of the features that were incorporated into the design, the new indoor Practice Facility has become a valued recruiting tool for the school. The redeveloped press box has been expanded to include a booster’s lounge, media booth, camera platforms and audio control room.

Description: Without trying to mimic the existing WPA stadium, the new facilities add a new design dimension and life to the complex through the use of high-tech materials and school colors.
